In her sessions:
Sharon combines deep listening with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of physical medicine and its related energetics. Sessions may include a blend of acupuncture, acupressure, moxibustion, craniosacral therapy, and a form of touch called "Flow" which invites the nervous system to greater ease.
Acupuncture, Acupressure, and Moxibustion
Acupuncture and moxibustion (a traditional form of heat therapy) work to remove energetic blockages and functional obstructions that can lead to pain, discomfort and disease. The objective is to restore a harmonious interrelationship of parts to the system and to promote a flow of Life Force (Qi) and blood in the body. This branch of Asian medicine is a vast field of study and practice that spans centuries. Because acupuncture (and acupressure) addresses underlying causes and imbalances, it can be useful in addressing a variety of health concerns and allows greater connection to internal resources for recovery and well being.
As a doctor of acupuncture and Asian medicine for so many years, Sharon views health through that overarching lens and it informs her approach.
She is blessed to have trained and worked with some of the finest doctors in the field of Asian medicine. Though educated in Traditional Chinese Medicine, her primary focus is classical Japanese acupuncture. She brings a sophisticated and nuanced understanding to the work and a gentle, interactive style. For those who are afraid of needles, she can work with or without them.
Craniosacral Therapy and 'Flow'
The addition of craniosacral therapy or 'Flow' to any acupuncture session adds a dimension of spaciousness and relaxation in the body's integration and unwinding process.
Craniosacral therapy involves a gentle, intelligent touch to the bones, soft tissues and fluids that surround the central nervous system. It promotes the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, breath, and the unwinding of deep constrictive patterns of tension and torsion in the body. It can relieve pain and address a multitude of ailments caused by injury or stress, including headaches, nervous system related disorders, spinal issues, fibromyalgia, even depression and insomnia.
'Flow', aka Flowtrition is a system of touch and compassionate attention that fosters ease, self awareness, and the integration of life experiences stored in the body as tension. It is a conversation with the nervous system that is a nourishing reset and a great counterbalance to stress. 'Flow' or Flowtrition is grounded in the brilliant work of chiropractor Lance Wright, D.C.
The body's innate wisdom takes precedence over what any of us think we know. Accessing, listening to and allowing that innate force to work is the priority in all forms of treatment in this office.
